This course prepares you to be a competent outdoor adventure instructor in any setting. Learn both hard and soft skill which will make you qualified to work in the outdoor education industry. Whether you want to work for summer camps, Outward Bound, other national outdoor leadership schools, or even here at CRROBS, this semester course will highlight your resume and increase your opportunities to work in the field. Not only do you leave the sixty days with a detailed letter of recommendation from our executive director explaining your accomplishments but top students will also be referred to Outward Bound USA, who hold this course in high regards. Furthermore, a select number of the top students will be asked to intern with CRROBS for 3 months as assistant instructors, giving you practical work experience. But before you start you need the Certifications

Upon successful completion of each module of the Leadership Semester, participants are able to earn the following certifications:

• Wilderness First Responder (American Red Cross and CRROBS)
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross)
• Swift Water Rescue Technician Global (SRTG or WRT) (Rescue 3 International)
• Technical Rope Rescue Operations Level (TRR) (Rescue 3 International)
• White Water River Guide License Class III (International Rafting Federation)
• Scuba Certification (NAUI)
• Instructor Judgement Training (CRROBS)
• Land Instructor Training (CRROBS)
• Beach Safety and Lifeguarding (CRLA)

Most of the above certifications are necessary for working in the outdoor adventure industry anywhere in the world, as they provide the necessary safety training required. The Costa Rica specific certifications are essential for working here because we need our interns to know our rivers, our evacuation routes, and be able to interact and lead with our Costa Rican instructors.

This course demands high-energy, focused people who are committed to providing excellent experiential education to our students. This is a rigorous course that will comprehensively prepare you for a career and most students treat this like a two month job interview.
