Surf Element (6-7 days):
Your group starts out camping at Playa Avellanas where the beginners
can pick up the fundamentals on the safe and consistent beach break next
to the campground while the intermediate and advanced practice with the
instructors at the more intense breaks (the river mouth and Little Hawai’I)
further up the beach. During this time when the tide is not in, the instructors
will be teaching surfing etiquette, the physics of waves, tidal influence,
and ocean and beach ecology. The group will also participate in activities
such as beach conservation clean-ups, team-building exercises, and jungle
hikes. For the entire course, the group will camp on the beach and prepare
its own meals.
When the whole group has a solid foundation, they head out on day-trips
to surrounding beaches, such as Playa Negra and Playa Tamarindo, to explore
the area and test themselves on different types of breaks. Playa
Negra has a decent A frame, breaks both right and left at the peak and
has a good offshore break over a reef. Tamarindo has a good right,
and consistent 3 to 5 foot swells in super warm water. Playa Avellanas
has a long beach break with strong right break on the north side of the
beach, rivaled by few. |
Our clients recommend combining the Multi-Element and Surf courses to have
one spectacular adventure. Although the beaches are beautiful and the surf is
amazing, most people believe that you have to do both to truly experience all
of what Costa Rica has to offer. By effectively completing one course after
the other, our clients take advantage of flight costs and are more efficient
with their vacation time. Trust us, 8 days in Costa will not be enough!
You will want to stay longer, so take both courses and have a once in a lifetime
trip!
