Thank you for your interest in becoming a CRROBS Monkey! Your efforts
to contact us are appreciated and below we have compiled the necessary information
you will need to apply: Who We Hire, Standards
We Seek, How To Get Qualified,
and Current Positions Available.
We are looking for people who are committed to the growth and development of
our students on a personal, group, and community level. We want our staff to
have the unique blend of skills ranging from the ability to help our students’
process their experiences into valuable life lessons, to being able to safely
teach a whitewater kayaking. Outward Bound instructional staff must be good
listeners, have previous experience with other outdoor, adventure-based wilderness
programs, which were aimed primarily at personal growth, and on top of all of
that, possess a positive attitude towards safety and the natural environment.
Being an Instructor for Costa Rica
Rainforest Outward
Bound School
is demanding and rewarding; we seek individuals who are willing to make a commitment
to serving students through the delivery of our mission.
Individuals interested
in joining the school’s instructional staff usually possess a full resume of
experience leading wilderness expeditions for programs with similar missions
to Outward Bound. As a minimum, successful candidates have personal and institutional
climbing experience; lead climbing/guiding experience is especially valuable.
Similarly, successful candidates also have whitewater guide experience; and
again, individuals who are active paddlers and own their own boats are valued.
We seek staff who are committed to the process of educating, possess strong
facilitation/interpersonal skills, and have a track record of teaching experience,
either in or out of the classroom. Our staff must have knowledge of both Costa
Rican culture and biodiversity. Current CPR and Wilderness First Responder certification
are prerequisite to hiring. The more skills you have in all the other areas-
experience leading multi-day mountain trips in a wilderness setting, caving,
backpacking, and sea travel, the stronger your application will be.
Each year at least two hundred people apply for approximately twenty openings
as climbing staff or assistant instructors. We strive to hire a diverse staff.
We definitely prioritize people who have participated in an Outward Bound-type
experience and who understand the philosophy and methodology of experiential
education aimed at personal growth.
We consider every staff person as extremely valuable and invest considerable
time and resources into staff training. Therefore, we also prioritize people
who are seeking long term employment with us, whether that be
seasonal work or year round work.

To Get Qualified |

In the field of outdoor
education nothing takes the place of real experience. The skills and judgment
needed to run safe student experiences in a wilderness setting are gained through
professional initiatives and personal endeavors. For this reason, Costa
Rica Rainforest Outward
Bound School
offers a course that concentrates on the professional development of outdoor
educators and is aimed at helping participants gain valuable skills and experiences
that augment skills already present. This course is the Outdoor
Leadership Course.

instructors to be currently certified in Wilderness First Responder as well
as have beach/ocean lifeguarding training and experience before they arrive

Rica.
